As a Young Life leader, you will likely often hear the phrase: “Young life DNA.”
If you visit any international Young Life clubs, you’re going to see how the ministry may have some differences, but when you see the leaders in action, you’ll notice that the DNA of the leaders looks quite similar because, no matter where they are, Young Life leaders have the same heart for teenagers.
In my opinion, this is what it is the “Young Life DNA” is all about. It’s what I call “The Two L’s”:
- Love the Lord
- Love the Lost
LOVE THE LORD
“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and mind and with all your soul and with all your strength [your entire being].”
Deuteronomy 6:5 AMP
I’m not talking about being perfect. What I’m talking about is pursuing the perfect One, Jesus Christ. Young Life leaders are people who are constantly pursuing the Lord through devotional time, prayer, and living in community (Church). Leaders are people with a hunger to know and be with GOD.
LOVE THE LOST
“With exuberant joy, he raised it up and placed it on his shoulders, carrying it back with cheerful delight! Return home..”
Luke 15:5 TPT
When we love God, we also love what God loves. And God loves the lost.
So this is what I consider the perfect formula for a Young Life leader: Love The Lord + Love The Lost.
