As we head into spring, following a difficult 2020, consider getting outside and taking a walk with your adolescent friends, and engaging in meaningful conversation. Below are some questions you can use to talk about the past year and the one ahead.

Questions from the Past Year

  • What has been the hardest part of 2020, COVID and quarantine for you?
  • What was the best part of it?
  • What words would you use to describe yourself over the past year?
  • What memorable things did you hear people say?
  • Who did you come to appreciate in a new way?
  • What music impacted you deeply?
  • In what ways did you change?
  • What talks/books/movies/messages rocked your world?
  • What did you change your mind about?
  • Who came through for you?
  • What things do you remember that you’d rather forget?
  • What were the most difficult times?
  • What ways were you challenged?
  • What were your most significant accomplishments?
  • If you were to give this past year a title, what would it be? 

Questions for the Upcoming Year

  • What hopes do you have for the spring and summer?
  • What apprehensions do you have?
  • What one change could you make in your behavior in this next season that would help you to live in greater alignment with your values? 
  • What daring or thrilling things will you try?
  • What would you like to change about yourself?
  • If this upcoming season could have a title, what do you want it to be?
  • What major things do you want to accomplish in the next season?
  • Any wild predictions about what will happen throughout this nation and world?
  • Who are the top ten relationships you intend to influence over the next year?
  • How will you be more intentional with these people than in the past?
  • What has to happen for you to label 2021 “your best year yet?”
  • What is the wildest, most unconventional thing you could do this next year to live with more passion?
  • Who are you most honest with about your struggles?
  • What are the most purposeful daily habits you could develop or upgrade over the next 12 months?
  • What are some specific messes or clutter projects you’d like to clean up in the next 12 months
  • How will you take better care of your health in this next year?
  • What will you do to daily renew your mind?
