Maybe it feels too early in the semester to start Campaigners. If you feel like you don’t yet know kids well enough to dive into a Bible study, and you want to wait until after fall camp to kick it off, here’s an idea for you.
A leader in our area recently told me about a tradition he started with some sophomore guys called “The Bro Breakfast.” He invited every sophomore guy he met to come each Friday morning before school to the local fried chicken breakfast shop. If you want to attract adolescent males, just offer fried chicken for breakfast.
They had no agenda other than to be together. No planning. No prep. No awkwardness. Just guys eating dead birds covered in deep fried oil. Few things create bonding memories like kickin’ off your day with 600 calories and 28 grams of fat.
Oh, and don’t forget fried hashbrowns and a large sweet tea on the side. #’merica.
Do you think the Bro Breakfast was successful? Do you think it became a tradition that lasted throughout high school? Do you think when those guys come home on college breaks they call up their YL leader to meet them at Bojangles? You betcha.
Now we just need to figure out a name for the ladies. We’re taking suggestions in the comments below.
